Make sure both devices are connected to the same WiFi

For screen mirroring to work, your Chromecast and your Android device have to be connected to the same WiFi.

How to connect Chromecast to WiFi

You don’t exactly connect Chromecast to WiFi. Instead, you merge it with your smartphone using the Google Home app

To connect your Chromecast to WiFi, you will need the Google Home app. Your Android device should come with it pre-installed. Home is Google’s smart home app. It allows you to control app-compatible devices and appliances such as lights, blinds, TVs or front door cameras.

Here’s the process of connecting your Chromecast to WiFi :

  1. Plug in your Chromecast.
  2. Turn on Google Home app.
  3. Go to ‘Settings’ – ‘Add device’.
  4. The app will identify your Chromecast.
  5. Finalize the process.
  6. Go to Settings in the top-right corner.

If you have a Chromecast with Google TV, connecting to WiFi is a bit different:

  1. Plug in your Chromecast.
  2. Pick the HDMI socket from your source list on TV.
  3. Follow the process to pair the remote.
  4. Choose your WiFi from the list.
  5. Insert your Wifi password.

How to connect to WiFi on Android

  1. Go to Settings – Network and Internet.
  2. Click Wi-Fi.
  3. Tick off ‘Use Wi-Fi’.
  4. Choose your desired WiFi network.

Check network settings

Sometimes the issue is deeper than just connecting your devices to the same WiFi. Time to get into the nitty gritty of your Internet connection!

Screen mirroring is based on wireless Internet. That’s why you need to ensure that your Chromecast device can establish a secure and stable connection with your Android smartphone or tablet.

First of all, make sure your Chromecast is connected to your WiFi router. Use the steps above to do it.

DRM

DRM stands for Digital Rights Management. It’s a system of rules that defines the legal access to digital content. It’s a way for companies, entities and individuals to protect their copyrighted material.

What does it have to do with screen mirroring? DRM can define who has access to content, or for how long, but it can also put measures in place that prevent copying or distribution.

Since screen mirroring is basically a duplication of one screen onto another, some apps such as Netflix or Disney Plus understand it as unauthorized distribution and have DRM barriers in place. You can only access these apps via official ways defined by the companies behind them. Whether it’s a mobile app or an in-browser page, it’s up to companies to decide how they will distribute their content.

It might be the case that companies decide to disable screen mirroring as part of their DRM efforts. That would mean you can’t cast your favorite movies or series from your Android to Chromecast. Luckily, there’s a way to circumvent it!

Read the AirBeamTV guide to DRM and learn how to easily get around it.

How to mirror Android to Chromecast without WiFi?

Unfortunately, it is not possible to screen mirror your Android screen to Chromecast without using WiFi. Screen mirroring relies on a stable connection in order to work properly, and WiFi is the only way to provide that stability. Chromecast does not support cellular data connections, so even if your phone has a strong signal, the mirroring will still be unreliable.

There are some apps that claim to offer screen mirroring without WiFi, but in AirBeamTVs experience, they are not reliable and often cause more frustration than they are worth. If you want to use Chromecast for screen mirroring, we recommend setting up a WiFi network specifically for that purpose.

It doesn’t have to be a strong or fast connection, but it does need to be reliable. Once you have a good WiFi connection, screen mirroring with Chromecast will be quick and easy.

How to reset Chromecast

Below you’ll find the method for Chromecast:

  1. Go to the Google Home app.
  2. Access your device.
  3. Go to Settings.
