Why does Sony TV not appear in screen mirroring list?

You open your screen mirroring app, ready to cast your phone or laptop to your Sony TV, and nothing shows up. No Sony TV in the list. Just a blank screen staring back at you. It is one of the most common frustrations people run into, and the good news is that it almost always has a simple fix.

This guide walks you through the most likely causes of a Sony TV not appearing in your screen mirroring list and shows you exactly what to do about each one. Follow the steps in order and you will have your Sony TV showing up in no time.

Check your Wi-Fi connection first

Before anything else, confirm that both your Sony TV and your source device (your phone, tablet, or computer) are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. This is the number one reason a Sony TV disappears from the screen mirroring list, and it is easy to overlook.

  1. On your Sony TV, go to Settings, then Network, and check which Wi-Fi network it is connected to.
  2. On your phone or computer, open your Wi-Fi settings and check the network name there too.
  3. If they are on different networks (for example, one on 2.4GHz and one on 5GHz), switch both to the same band.

Once both devices are confirmed on the same network, try opening your screen mirroring app again and scanning for devices. If your Sony TV now appears, you are done. If not, move on to the next step.

Enable screen mirroring on your Sony TV

Sony TVs do not always have screen mirroring switched on by default. If your TV is not discoverable, it may simply be because the feature is turned off in the settings menu.

  1. Press the Home button on your Sony remote.
  2. Go to Settings, then select Network or Device Preferences, depending on your model.
  3. Look for Screen mirroring or Wireless display and make sure it is set to On or Always allow.
  4. On some Sony Android TV models, you can also find this under Apps and then Cast settings.

After enabling the setting, give the TV a moment to become discoverable on the network. Then return to your screen mirroring app and scan again. You should now see your Sony TV listed as an available device.

Restart your TV and source device

A simple restart clears temporary glitches that can prevent your Sony TV from showing up. This step sounds obvious, but it solves the problem more often than you might expect.

  1. Turn your Sony TV fully off using the power button on the TV itself (not just the remote standby).
  2. Unplug the TV from the wall and wait at least 30 seconds.
  3. Plug it back in and turn it on.
  4. Restart your phone, tablet, or computer as well.
  5. Reconnect both devices to your Wi-Fi network before opening the screen mirroring app.

After the restart, open your screen mirroring app fresh and scan for devices. A cold restart refreshes the network connection on both ends, which often resolves detection issues that a simple app close would not fix.

Fix Sony TV detection in the AirBeamTV app

With your Wi-Fi confirmed and your TV restarted, now check the app settings themselves. Sometimes the app needs a little help finding your TV, especially after a network change or a software update.

  1. Close the screen mirroring app completely on your device.
  2. Make sure your Sony TV is turned on and fully booted before reopening the app.
  3. Reopen the app and wait up to 30 seconds on the device discovery screen. Some TVs take a moment to broadcast their presence on the network.
  4. If your Sony TV still does not appear, look for a manual search or enter IP address option within the app. You can find your Sony TV’s IP address under Settings, then Network, then Network Status on the TV.

Entering the IP address manually bypasses the automatic discovery process and connects directly to your TV. This is particularly useful if your router has settings that limit device broadcasting, such as AP isolation or multicast filtering.

Troubleshoot persistent connection issues

If your Sony TV still does not appear after working through the steps above, a few deeper network or device settings could be blocking the connection.

  • Check your router settings: AP isolation (also called client isolation) prevents devices on the same network from seeing each other. Log into your router and disable this setting if it is active.
  • Try a different Wi-Fi band: If your router broadcasts both 2.4GHz and 5GHz, try connecting both devices to the 2.4GHz band. It has a longer range and is sometimes more reliable for device discovery.
  • Disable VPN: If you have a VPN running on your phone or computer, turn it off. VPNs reroute traffic in a way that prevents local device detection.
  • Update your Sony TV software: Go to Settings, then Device Preferences, then About, and check for system updates. Outdated firmware can cause connectivity problems.
  • Check for app updates: Make sure your screen mirroring app is running the latest version. Updates often include fixes for device compatibility issues.

After making any of these changes, restart both your TV and your source device once more before testing again. Persistent issues are almost always tied to one of these network-level settings rather than a fault with the TV or app itself.
