Screen Mirroring Isn’t Working Because of Private WiFi
With the release of iOS 14 and the subsequent iOS15, some settings and features have changed for Wifi-connections. To prevent screen mirroring from not working, you may need to adjust some settings.
What does Private Address mean on WiFi
Introduced with iOS 14, Private Address is Apple’s Internet security measure. It’s meant to make your iPhone or iPad harder to track, especially if you connect to public WiFi networks often.
Private Address works by randomizing your MAC – Media Access Control. MAC control the hardware that establishes the connection between your device and a wireless network.
In this way, no third-party can track use patterns of your device, which might eventually enable them to track your device.
Private WiFi Address can make it so that your screen mirroring isn’t working. It works by your TV asking the iOS device for an URL address to stream. This is facilitated by your IP.
Since MAC and IP are interconnected, your TV might be requesting an address that doesn’t exist (because Private WiFi Address had changed it).
How To Turn Off Private WiFi Address
Turning off Private WiFi Address on iOS 15:
- Go to Settings – WiFi.
- Click the blue ⓘ icon next to the network you’re connected to.
- Tick off ‘Private WiFi Address’.
- Turn WiFi off and back on.
How to turn off Private WiFi Address on iOS 14:
- Go to Settings – WiFi.
- Click the blue ⓘ information icon.
- Tick off ‘Private WiFi Address’.
- Turn WiFi off and back on.
You clicked the ‘Deny’ message by mistake
If you’re using screen mirroring on Samsung TV, one of the reasons it isn’t working might be a misclick.
When you try to connect your iPad or iPhone to your Samsung TV, a prompt message will show, asking you to allow for the connection to be established.
If you clicked ‘Deny’ by mistake, then screen mirroring isn’t going to be working.
Luckily, there’s a simple way to fix this. Please refer to our FAQ item that will help you solve that issue.
Your iPhone/iPad can’t find your TV
When you try to establish the screen mirroring connection, but it isn’t working, check whether your iPhone or iPad can find your TV.
All screen mirroring apps, including AirBeamTV require the sender and receiver device to be connected to the same WiFi.
How to check WiFi on iPhone or iPad
- Go to Settings – WiFi.
- Check the network name.
- Make sure it’s the same as your Smart TV.
Your TV is not AirPlay compatible
Although AirPlay is a staple across iOS devices, that’s not the case for all Smart TVs. Most often, only the most recent models will be compatible with AirPlay.
Luckily, if you want to do some screen mirroring and AirPlay isn’t working for you, there are some alternatives.
Third-party screen mirroring apps
If your iOS native screen mirroring solution isn’t working, you can opt for a third-party solution, such as AirBeamTV.
Our apps are tailor-made for all popular Smart TV manufacturers. That means you will be able to connect your iPhone or iPad to your TV effortlessly.
All AirBeamTV apps are free to try. After the free trial, they will still cost less than even the cheapest streaming device!
AirPlay 2 compatible streaming devices
There are some streaming devices available on the market that you can use to make your TV AirPlay compatible. The cheapest ones, such as Roku Express will set you back less than 20$.
The thing with cheap streaming devices is that they usually offer very limited CPU capabilities, and go no further than HD, or 1080p
More premium ones, such as Apple TV or Chromecast are in a $80-$160 range.
Keep in mind that Fire TV doesn’t support AirPlay.
